The Tail of Oh My Dog...
[...] The story of how Oh My Dog came to be is one of true fate, and what I believe was my destiny.
It all started one beautiful November afternoon when my mom, and I were walking around Old Town and stumbled across The Mix. All of a sudden a beautiful blonde girl, Abbey, came running out of her store to place a rhinestone-studded tierra on my daughter Penelope's head! She explained that her Chihuahua Bijou's hair was not long enough to hold the tierra and that I must take it for Penelope. When I went back a few days later to bring Bijou a thank you gift, I started talking to Jennifer Croll and quickly learned that they were hiring for a part-time, seasonal, sales-associate. Well, as fate would have it I had quit my previous job, in pharmaceutical sales, the prior week, and jumped on the opportunity to make some cash, while still interviewing with other companies.
I absolutely loved working for Jennifer's store, and soon I learned from her that they were looking to add a "dog boutique component" to The Mix. When I heard this I asked Jenn if I could see the space available for rent, and that's when my wheels really started turning! In the past 8 years one of my favorite hobbies was creating business plans. (No wonder I majored in Marketing and Entrepreneurship!) So, I got to writing a business plan for a dog boutique, and suddenly became obsessed with the idea that I would be doing my favorite things for a living, running my own business and being around dogs all day!
After doing some research I realized that with the space that was for rent I definately needed to have a grooming spa, because there was no way I could afford the rent on my own. So, I went and talked to my good friend Susan, who had been styling/ grooming Penelope, to see if she knew of anyone in the business who might want an opportunity like this. She said that she didn't, but if she heard of anything she would let me know. Exactly one week later, as my mom and I were driving to hike Camelback, I got a phone call from Susan saying that she had to immediately leave the Steven Paul Salon due to the walls not being up to health code, and she was wondering if I was still thinking of opening a boutique. At that moment my heart stopped and my mom and I started screaming "Oh My God! Oh my God!" and then I said "NO!", "Oh My Dog!" Which is when the perfect name was born!
From there the decision to move forward was up to my father. After some extensive persuading from myself and Jennifer he agreed to be my silent partner and the rest is history! And now hundreds of work hours and 3 months later I am here living my dream every day with Susan at the Oh My Dog Boutique and Spa!
So, if you are thinking of coming to visit us, there is one thing that you must know... Susan and I truly love dogs, so if you don't want your baby to run-around and play, and get smothered with attention don't bring him/her here! And of course all dogs of all types are welcome, and owners can come too!
